Eye test in Douala: price, what to expect and when to go
People usually put off an eye test for two reasons: they do not know what it costs, and they do not know what to expect. Let us settle both right now, so you can go and find a better excuse.

How much does an eye test cost?
At Jackson Eye Clinic in Kotto-Bonamoussadi, an eye consultation costs 2,000 FCFA.
If you need glasses, their price depends on the frame you choose and your prescription: it is given to you during the consultation. We give you a quote before any order: you decide knowing the amount, not after.
What happens during the consultation?
- You explain, in your own words, what is bothering you.
- Your vision is measured, for distance and for reading.
- Your eyes are examined with the clinic's equipment.
- You leave with clear explanations and, if needed, a prescription for glasses.
There is nothing to revise beforehand: this is not a test you can fail. If you already wear glasses, bring them, along with your old prescription if you have it.
When should you have your eyes checked?
Some common situations: things look blurry far away or up close, you hold your phone at arm's length to read it, you get headaches after reading or screen time, driving at night has become hard work, or your last check was several years ago.
For sudden loss of vision, an eye injury or severe pain, do not wait: come to the clinic immediately during opening hours or go to the nearest emergency service.
Where and when to come
The clinic is between Pharmacie Kotto and Santa Lucia, opposite the Visite Technique, in Kotto-Bonamoussadi, Douala V. It opens at 7:30 Monday to Friday and 8:00 on Saturday, until 17:00: early enough to come before work.
